Mani Ratnam finally films his dream Chola epic — sumptuous, sprawling, and unmistakably his.
Palace intrigue, divided loyalties and a coming storm of succession ripple across the Chola empire as a charming envoy carries word between warring factions.
Director: Mani Ratnam
Cast: Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha
Ravi Varman's frames could hang in a gallery and A. R. Rahman scores it like weather. The plotting is dense — names and allegiances fly fast — but the texture is intoxicating, and Aishwarya Rai's Nandini is a knockout. A grand table-setter that trusts your patience.
